For the first time: Xiaomi 15 series with the Snapdragon 8 processor, worth owning
Xiaomi's announcement of the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro phones
Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro phones as the first two devices equipped with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip was announced only last week, and here is Xiaomi preparing to launch a new phone equipped with this chip. This chip features a 3nm manufacturing process and uses an Oryon CPU, adding notable performance improvements to this year's flagship chip.
Xiaomi 15 series: performance and design
The Xiaomi 15 series comes equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, with an improved cooling system in the 15 Pro model. The new system adds a 14% increase in cooling area. In addition, the Xiaomi 15 Pro contains a 6,100 mAh battery, while the less expensive model contains a 5,400 mAh battery. In both cases, battery life is expected to be reliable.
Both versions of the Xiaomi 15 will be available with random access memory (RAM) of 12 GB or 16 GB, alongside the modern chip.
The Xiaomi 15 Pro features an elegant design, with a slightly curved screen, and the phone's body uses aluminum. On the back, there is a square camera array bearing the Leica branding, containing lenses with large apertures. Xiaomi indicates that the 15 Pro uses the same Sony IMX858 sensor found in the Xiaomi 14 Ultra for the telephoto lens. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 15 adopts a similar design with slightly curved edges.
Colors and prices of the Xiaomi 15 phones
The base model of the Xiaomi 15 is available in several calm and gray colors, including white, black, green, and purple. Meanwhile, the 15 Pro model comes in deeper colors including gray, green, and white. Xiaomi also offers a special edition called “Liquid Silver” which features a rippling effect when exposed to the right light, and it is available for both versions.
The Xiaomi 15 Pro will start at 5,299 Chinese yuan, while the Xiaomi 15 will start at 4,499 Chinese yuan in China.
The powerful performance of the Xiaomi 15 Pro
Under the hood, the Xiaomi 15 Pro contains a real treasure – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which represents the new generation (spiritually and physically) of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which is considered a massive powerhouse in performance.
This flagship chip includes the custom second-generation Oryon CPU cores from Qualcomm.
The new Oryon cores deliver a 45% increase in performance and a 44% improvement in power efficiency. In addition, the Adreno GPU achieves 40% gains in both performance and efficiency, contributing to overall system power savings of 27%. The maximum clock speed of the Oryon cores reaches 4.32 GHz.
Xiaomi 15 Pro display
The Xiaomi 15 Pro features a curved OLED screen measuring 6.73 inches, with a resolution of 3200 × 1440 pixels, ensuring an exceptional viewing experience. The screen uses the advanced M9 luminescent materials from TCL CSOT, which enhances image quality and adds exceptional brightness and clarity.
Xiaomi 15 Pro cameras
Moving to the rear, Xiaomi offers an advanced triple camera setup bearing the Leica branding, with the new AISP 2.0 computational imaging system.
The 50-megapixel main camera uses the OmniVision Light Fusion 900 sensor (the same sensor found in the Xiaomi 14), which is a 1/1.31-inch sensor with a 23mm equivalent focal length.
The main camera works alongside a new 50-megapixel periscope camera (IMX858) with 5x optical zoom, which also makes it a macro photography lens.
As for the third camera, it is a 50-megapixel wide-angle unit with a 14mm equivalent focal length, providing users with diverse, high-quality shooting options.
Xiaomi 15 Pro battery and builds
Xiaomi is raising the battery capacity to 6,100 mAh with support for 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The phone runs Android 15 with Xiaomi's new HyperOS 2 user interface.
Color options and prices
The Xiaomi 15 Pro is available in gray, white, and green colors, in addition to a premium edition called Rock Silver, which features a three-dimensional water ripple effect.
