Kaspersky Presents a Guide to Protecting Children While Using Artificial Intelligence Technologies 2026

Kaspersky has unveiled a set of recommendations and guidelines aimed at helping parents secure their children's experience when using AI tools, coinciding with the celebration of Safer Internet Day. This initiative aims to raise awareness of growing digital risks, especially as children increasingly rely on smart technologies in their daily lives.

A Generation Growing Up with Artificial Intelligence

The report focuses on what is known as "Generation Alpha" — children born between 2010 and 2025 — who grew up in a digital environment heavily dependent on smartphones, tablets, and smart applications. This generation uses a wide range of digital platforms, such as electronic games, social media platforms, and e-learning applications, alongside modern AI tools.

Kaspersky noted that many children have started using tools such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek to get information and quick answers, instead of relying on traditional search engines. Some also rely on voice assistants like Alexa to play music or execute commands without needing to interact directly with devices.

The company recommended raising children's awareness that AI is merely a technical tool and not a substitute for human communication or an absolute source of knowledge. It also emphasized the importance of training children to verify information from multiple sources, especially since AI answers may contain errors, biases, or misleading information.

The company also warned against using these tools to deal with sensitive topics such as mental health or security issues, in addition to stressing that personal data or private documents should not be shared with AI systems.

Enabling Privacy Settings and Content Filters

Kaspersky pointed out that many AI platforms and smart devices include built-in safety tools, but they are often not enabled by default. Therefore, the company recommends that parents review and adjust privacy settings and content filters in line with the children's ages and level of maturity.

These measures aim to reduce children's exposure to inappropriate content, protect their personal data, and minimize the risks of harmful digital interactions.

In cases where some platforms do not provide sufficient control options, the company advises using parental control tools such as the Kaspersky Safe Kids application, which allows control over the apps and websites children can access, as well as managing the time they spend online and blocking inappropriate content.

The Importance of Verifying the Reliability of AI Applications

With the rapid spread of AI applications, Kaspersky stressed the necessity of verifying the reliability of applications before installing them on children's devices. Recommendations include downloading apps from official stores only and avoiding untrusted sources that may contain malware.

The company also recommends checking the background of the company that developed the application and confirming that it has an official website and a clear legal record. In addition, the guidelines emphasized the need to teach children how to manage app permissions and not grant data access unless necessary.

Family Follow-Up Is an Essential Element of Digital Safety

Kaspersky confirmed that ongoing communication between parents and children plays a key role in promoting the safe use of technology. The company encourages parents to discuss their children's digital experiences and ask simple questions such as: What did you ask the AI today? Was the answer helpful or accurate?

The company also suggests that parents ask children to explain what they learned from using AI tools in their school homework, or to talk about the topics they discuss with voice assistants, which helps strengthen digital awareness in children.

The Balance Between Freedom and Digital Protection

In a comment, Andrei Sidenko, Head of Cybersecurity Awareness Projects at Kaspersky, explained that parents sharing their children's digital experiences helps build trust between them. He added that when a child feels supported and guided rather than strictly monitored, they become more willing to seek advice when facing any digital problem.

Sidenko stressed the importance of achieving a balance between giving children the freedom to use technology and ensuring their digital safety and protection from potential risks.

Kaspersky's Role in Promoting Cybersecurity

Kaspersky is one of the world's leading companies specializing in cybersecurity and digital privacy, having been founded in 1997. Company data indicates that it has provided protection solutions for more than one billion devices worldwide, serving millions of individual users in addition to approximately 200,000 corporate and institutional clients.
