DeepSeek Has Shaken Every Tech Throne and Everyone Is Scared and Watching but Meta Says Otherwise
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, announced the company's firm confidence in its strategic AI direction, despite the notable rise of the Chinese startup DeepSeek and the impact of its intelligent models on the sector. This came during a press conference following the announcement of the company's financial results for the fourth quarter of 2024, where he faced questions about the potential challenges that the new competition might pose to Meta's plans.
Zuckerberg Explained
That DeepSeek's achievements, which were accomplished with a relatively limited budget, "reinforce our conviction that we are following the right approach," noting that the innovations introduced by the Chinese company are considered proof of the effectiveness of some technical directions currently adopted by Meta. He also revealed that the company's research and development teams are studying DeepSeek's new technologies and will work to integrate the promising aspects into the open-source model Llama, which is considered one of the pillars of Meta's strategy in the AI race.
He Added:
"Competition is a healthy part of this field, but our focus is on developing tools capable of benefiting billions around the world, not merely reacting to competitors' moves." These statements elevate the value of global technical cooperation, while at the same time affirming Meta's commitment to strengthening its position as a leader in innovation by leveraging rapid industry developments, without being dragged into the fever of short-term competition.
It is worth noting that DeepSeek recently attracted widespread attention after launching advanced AI models at a lower cost than their global counterparts, raising questions about the ability of large companies to maintain their superiority in the face of new players emerging with innovative approaches.
