WhatsApp Tests Multi-Account Feature on iPhone Devices

WhatsApp Begins Rolling Out Multiple Account Management on iPhone… Finally!

In a move long awaited by iPhone users, WhatsApp has officially begun testing a new feature that allows managing and running multiple accounts on the same device without the need to log out or rely on third-party apps — an update considered one of the most important additions to arrive in the app this year.

According to WABetaInfo, a site specialized in tracking updates, the feature is currently available to a limited number of beta users, with a gradual rollout expected over the coming weeks. Other reports indicate that some users may receive the feature even if they are running older beta versions, while the development team continues to improve stability and fine-tune the experience.

A Long-Awaited Feature… Now a Reality

WhatsApp had previously begun working on this feature within the iOS beta update 25.19.10.74, where the concept of switching between multiple accounts directly from Settings first appeared — without needing to log out. This was a capability that the iPhone version of WhatsApp had been missing, unlike some competing apps.

The feature gives users the ability to:

  • Add a completely new account with a previously unused phone number.

  • Log into an existing account, whether it is a regular WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business account.

  • Link an existing account from another device by scanning a QR code and instantly transferring chats and settings.

In the current beta phase, the app supports adding only two accounts on the same device, with plans to expand the feature to support more accounts later.

Easier Management Without Logging Out or Extra Apps

The new feature appears within the app's settings under a section expected to be called Accounts List or next to the QR code icon, serving as a unified hub for managing different accounts.

The new experience provides full independence for each account, where each one retains its own:

  • Chat history and personal media

  • Independent backups

  • Notification settings and ringtones

  • Privacy settings such as last seen — profile photo — read receipts — muted accounts

  • Auto-download settings for photos and videos

This complete separation between accounts allows users — especially business owners and e-commerce entrepreneurs — to manage their personal and professional accounts within a single app, smoothly and without any overlap.

How Will the Feature Change the User Experience?

This step is a significant leap for iPhone users, as the multiple accounts feature has been one of the most repeatedly requested demands for years, especially for:

  • Entrepreneurs who use one number for work and another for personal life

  • Employees who need access to a company account without sacrificing their primary account

  • Users who rely on WhatsApp Business and wish to combine it with regular WhatsApp without needing additional devices

With this update, WhatsApp eliminates the need for workarounds such as installing the Business version or relying on a separate device to manage an additional account.

Official Launch Coming Soon

WhatsApp is currently testing the features gradually to ensure performance stability on iOS, and the feature is expected to reach all users in phases over the coming period.

This addition represents one of the biggest updates the iPhone version has received in years, and positions WhatsApp more strongly to compete with other apps that have supported multiple accounts for a long time.

Full Control and Complete Separation Between Accounts

WhatsApp is keen in the new update to deliver a balanced and flexible user experience, with no overlap between data or settings. Each account is treated as an "independent app" within WhatsApp itself, where backups, media history, and settings remain completely isolated from other accounts.
This complete separation gives users — especially those combining personal and professional accounts — great ease in managing their daily communications without confusion or concern about mixing information.

WhatsApp has also improved how notifications are displayed when using multiple accounts, so users can now immediately know which account received a message through a notification that shows the sender's name alongside the relevant account name — putting an end to the confusion that could previously arise when managing multiple lines of communication.

This addition is especially important for those who rely on more than one number to divide their tasks between work, family, and side projects.

Instant Switching Between Accounts

To further facilitate switching between accounts, WhatsApp has provided several practical methods that make switching possible in a matter of seconds:

  • Via the Accounts List added within the Settings page

  • By long-pressing the Settings tab at the bottom of the screen

  • Or by double-tapping the Settings tab to switch directly to the next account

Once the desired account is selected, the app instantly loads the chats and settings without needing to restart the app or log in again. A small message appears on screen to alert the user that they have switched to another account, adding clarity and a smoother user experience.

An Extra Security Layer for Each Account

Because multiple accounts means multiple levels of privacy, WhatsApp has fully integrated the new feature with the App Lock feature.
When attempting to access an account that has the lock enabled, the app requests verification via Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode before granting access.

This step prevents any other user from opening your different accounts even if they gain access to the phone itself, ensuring maximum protection and making the feature both useful and secure at the same time.

As for removing accounts, users can easily delete any account by going to Settings and then the "Account" section, where an option to remove the currently active account from the app will appear.

A Major Step in the Right Direction

Supporting multiple accounts on iPhone represents a major development in WhatsApp's journey, especially since this feature has been one of the most urgent requests for many years. Once fully rolled out officially, it will bring a significant shift in how the app is used, whether for regular users, entrepreneurs, freelancers, or small business owners.
