WhatsApp crashes due to a normal message on Android

When a seemingly ordinary message containing the link “http://w.me/settings” is sent to WhatsApp users on Android, a sudden crash occurs in the app, according to press reports. Security researcher Bandia Mayor pointed this out in a tweet on Twitter.

According to reports, the affected version of WhatsApp on Android appears to be version 2.23.10.77. Although the link mentioned in the message is a normal link that leads to the app's settings, there is an unknown bug in the Android version of WhatsApp that causes the app to crash when opening any conversation containing the link. Opening the conversation that contains the message will cause the app to crash, and therefore, users are advised to avoid opening this conversation and can delete it entirely without opening it to restore the app's normal operation.

Also:

If the user is unable to use WhatsApp on their phone due to the mentioned message, they can open their WhatsApp account on a computer and delete the message from there, and then they can resume using the app on Android again.

It is well known that WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world, with over two billion users globally. In second place comes the Chinese app WeChat with approximately 1.2 billion users, followed by Facebook Messenger with nearly one billion users. It is worth noting that both WhatsApp and Messenger belong to the American company Meta (formerly known as Facebook). It is expected that an update for WhatsApp will be released soon to resolve the issue with the mentioned message.
